A Transformational Investment

HYUNDAI-POSCO Louisiana Steel (HPLS) is a $5.8 billion landmark investment redefining the future of manufacturing in the United states. Located in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, this first-of-its-kind facility represents Hyundai Motor Group’s inaugural steel production base in North America — establishing a fully integrated, made-in-America supply chain supporting automotive production nationwide

Strengthening America’s Industrial Competitiveness

HPLS is more than a steel mill — it is a strategic platform designed to:

  • Reinforce U.S. manufacturing resilience
  • Localize critical supply chains
  • Support next-generation mobility industries
By integrating steel production directly into the U.S. automotive ecosystem, HPLS enhances efficiency, reliability, and national competitiveness.

Producing Low-Carbon Emissions Automotive Steel at a Strategic Location

As the world’s first EAF-based fully integrated steel mill dedicated to automotive steel production, this facility is designed to manufacture steel products that generate approximately 70% less CO₂ emissions than those produced using conventional Blast Furnace methods.
Located on approximately 1,822 acres within the RiverPlex MegaPark adjacent to the Mississippi River, approximately 1,822-acre site offers significant logistical and operational advantages, including deep-water port access, rail and interstate connectivity, and scalable industrial infrastructure. This strategic location enables efficient inbound raw materials logistics and outbound final steel products distribution across North America and etc.

Economic Impact and Long‑Term Commitment

The project is expected to create more than 1,300 direct jobs, with thousands of additional indirect jobs across the region. HPLS represents a long-term commitment to Louisiana’s skilled workforce, robust infrastructure, and business-friendly environment contributing to sustained regional growth and strengthening U.S. manufacturing resilience.
